Abstract
Using the combination of full-plastic-buckling stress distribution pattern and elastic-plastic stress distribution pattern, the paper derives formulas to calculate the ultimate strength of moment for damaged ships. Through an actual damaged ship example, the calculated results from the two methods are compared with each other to estimate the structural ultimate capacity. It shows that the resuits are quite well and can be used in practice.
